Silica gel is a hard granular, non-toxic and non-corrosive desiccant with the appearance of crushed glass.  It is slightly softer than ordinary window glass, odorless, insoluble and a non-conductor of electricity.

Silica gel has a very strong affinity for water, which gives it an adsorption capacity of over 40% of its own weight at 100% relative humidity.  It is compatible with most materials except strong alkalis and hydrofluoric acid.     It is resistant to most acidic streams and is therefore used in the drying or purification of acid vapors or liquids.

In bagged form, silica gel provides the static dehumidification needed for the protection of many materials and packaged items to prevent corrosion, mold, and mildew.

Silica gel can be reused after being fully saturated with water.  To reactivate, simply heat at 250⁰ F for approximately 8 hours
